Understanding the UpdatePanel |
|
|
The UpdatePanel is probably the most important control in the ASP.NET Ajax offering since it can simply be wrapped around existing ASP.NET controls and allow post backs to them to happen in an asynchronous fashion. This talk will go over the main features of this control and show you how to and how not to use it to successfully add Ajax functionality to an existing website. We will also cover controls that are used with the UpdatePanel and are necessary for successful use of UpdatePanel such as the ScriptManager, the UpdateProgress, and the UpdatePanelAnimation control.

Agile Estimating and Planning with TargetProcess |
|
|
Agile projects present several interesting challenges for traditional software planning:
· Programming is done in pairs – so task assignment and estimating should follow
· Iterations and releases are fast and furious
· Trade offs are constant with the highest value tasks always coming first and changing requirements are encouraged
· Design, code, test and QA all happen more or less at once
Come to this session to learn how a real agile team has been using these ideas and tools to manage the development of a commercial software product.

Test Driven Development in the Smalltalk Environme |
|
|
There is a certain self-similarity between TDD and the
physical universe. There are just a few
more than 100 known elements, and the whole universe is built from them. Simplicity is at the core and working
complexity shows in the results. In TDD
the units of code and their functionality are very small and simple; their
power stems from the way they are put progressively together. Nature is constantly experimenting and
producing failing tests. Most of the
time we get to only see the results of the tests that succeeded. In TDD we purposefully write tests that will
fail with the goal of making them eventually succeed.
Smalltalk, a powerful, developer friendly, pure object
oriented language with a rich library of classes is uniquely fit as a rapid
application development tool with all the needed TDD functionality built-in.
A demonstration of TDD in the Smalltalk environment will be
presented.
